  • Dakota County's Lyft Program

Lyft is an on-demand ride sharing app, where individuals can use their smart phone to book rides to/from work & interviews. Individuals that are receiving waiver services through Dakota County are eligible to received $500+ per month for community and Employment access.

Dakota County Lyft Program FAQ

  • Download the Lyft app on your new phone and sign into your Lyft account using your phone number and email address. The Lyft app will walk you through the steps.

If your phone number has changed, let your case manager and sslyft@co.dakota.mn.us know your new phone number ASAP.

  • In the Lyft app select Ride History. Tap on the driver for that trip. At the bottom select Find Lost Item. Selecting this will give you options on how you can retrieve your item. You may be charged a fee to your personal bank/credit account for the item to be returned.

  • Sign out of your Lyft account. The Lyft app will prompt you to sign into your account with an option Have an account and a new number? Select this option and follow the steps to verify your account.

If your phone number has changed, let your case manager and sslyft@co.dakota.mn.us know your new phone number ASAP.

  • In the menu button select Settings at the bottom. You can change your email address. Next you should Verify this email address in your Lyft profile.

Please email SSLyft@co.dakota.mn.us to notify the Lyft team. Program updates are occasionally emailed to individuals, make sure you don’t miss out.

  • Wait for a few minutes and try again. Drivers availability will constantly change as trips are completed and new drivers become available nearby.

Remember to always have a backup option to Lyft.

If you rate a driver three stars or less, you will never be matched with that driver again. If you consistently do this in an area that does not have many drivers available, this could affect your trips.

  • Contact your Case Manager and request additional funds. CM’s will need to submit a form to the Lyft team.

  • Confirm with your Case Manager that your documents were completed and submitted before the monthly deadline.

Double check in the menu screen, select payments and scroll to the bottom.

Confirm you have not changed your phone number.

Make sure your Lyft app is downloaded and updated and your Lyft profile is set up, including verifying your phone number and email address.

Make sure you are looking in your personal Lyft account (instead of the business account)

  • Do you have at least $25 available on your payment method?

Recheck that your payment source is accepted by Lyft. *

Check the card’s expiration date and all digits, codes and dates are entered correctly.

Confirm with your bank or call the back of the a gift card to ensure a positive balance.

Gift cards should be registered to the account user so the card can be authorized/verified by Lyft’s billing system.

  • Check the total charge. If it was for a specific amount such as $10, $5 or $1 it could be a fee that was charged to you or a tip you gave the driver.

If you feel the fee you were charge was incorrect, you can contact Lyft under the Help option and selecting Dispute ride fare or charge.

Occasionally you may see a pending charge from Lyft. Lyft does this to confirm or authorize your payment source.

Check your Ride History to make sure your Personal Lyft account was selected when ordering and completing your trip.

Recheck that you have Dakota County funds available. You can check this under Payments. You may have used all your funds for the month or there was a change in status. Check your email and/or with your Case Manager.

  • Confirm that your profile is completely set up:

    • Phone number verified

    • Email verified

    • Valid personal payment source* is entered with a min. balance of $50

Check your internet connection. You must be connected to Wi-Fi or data and have your location services turned on.

Make sure your Lyft app is updated.

  • First check your Dakota County funds balance to ensure you have enough to complete a trip. Select the menu button (top, left corner) in the Payment tab and you can view your balance. If you do not see your balance displayed, contact your Case Manager or SSLyft@co.dakota.mn.us.

Also, when you order a ride make sure Personal is selected near the bottom of the screen. The personal account is linked with your Dakota County funds plus your personal payment source such as VISA. Business account and Lyft Cash are not linked to Dakota County funds and cannot be used.

  • It’s not likely. Lyft matches you with the driver that is available and nearest to your pick-up location.

  • Yes, you can have up to two other people ride with you.

Example: Family member, friend or staff.

  • No, your Dakota County funds are only for your use.

  • No and Yes. Tipping is not required, rather optional. The app will default to select No Tip after each ride. You can change this and choose an amount if you want to tip. Remember all tips are charged to your personal bank/credit account.

Rating the driver is a requirement in the app for all users. Lyft wants to know riders’ experience each trip. Since their goal is 100% satisfaction, if the trip is anything less, Lyft wants to know.

  • Lyft accepts any one of the following:

American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Debit Cards, and Prepaid Cards. You can also use PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo or Link your bank account in select cities. We recommend keeping a minimum balance of $50.
